Transition from High School to Adult Services
One of the unique opportunities for high school seniors or young adults applying for services at Lincoln Street Inc. is our partnership with Project SEARCH. Project SEARCH is a unique year-long school to work program that started in Cincinnati Ohio at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital. There are currently 273 Project SEARCH programs world-wide, including the Project SEARCH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Project SEARCH is a unique program for high school seniors or recent high school graduates transitioning into adulthood to learn marketable skills for more complex competitive employment. Students spend the year in a classroom at DHMC and complete three strategically designed internships designed to learn complex marketable skills, employment related skills and explore career options. Students learn to create resumes, apply for positions and search for paid competitive employment. They are completing internships in a wide variety of departments at DHMC.
Lincoln Street, Inc. collaborates with the Pathways agency in New Hampshire and the Hartford School District to operate the Project SEARCH at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The program is supported by funding from the Vermont Agency of Education, the Vermont and New Hampshire Divisions of Vocational Rehabilitation and both Vermont and New Hampshire Divisions of Developmental Services.
Project SEARCH interns receive support from the Lincoln Street, Inc. Employment Team to assure they are competitively employed as they graduate from the program. Graduates from the Project SEARCH at Dartmouth-Hitchcock have found employment in hospitals, assisted living facilities, in the sales team of a major retailer and college dining services.
