LSI has been a long term supporter of the Self Advocacy Movement. It is a cornerstone of the agency culture that we listen and are responsive to the voices of the people we serve.

LSI actively supports two Self Advocacy Groups, SAM (Self Advocates Meeting) and COPS (Connection of Peer Supports) that are open to any indivivual receiving services through Lincoln Street Inc. LSI Service Coordinators serve as advisors to both groups

Both SAM and COPS self advocate groups are connected to Vermont's statewide self advocacy group, GMSA (Green Mountain Self Advocates). LSI Self Advocates have attended the National Self Advocacy Conference, participate actively in the statewide network and are both politically and socially active.

SAM and COPS members assist in the orientation of new staff members joining the LSI team. As part of our commitment to empowering the people we serve, self advocates participate in the orientation process.

Self Advocates participate with GMSA in sending representatives to state government to assure their voices are heard. Self Advocates also organize fund-raisers and sponsor social functions. Check out our "What's Happening" page for events.

The Mission of S.A.M. (Self-Advocates Meeting):
S.A.M.'s mission is to empower it's members to create the quality of life they desire for themselves by discovering and sharing their natural gifts and talents, nourish and enrich both their own lives and that of their communities.

The Mission of C.O.P.S (Connections of Peer Supports):
The C.O.P.S. group is a group where you can speak out and be heard. As a group, we are open to new members who want to meet together and stay together. We share new ideas, our rights, learn how to vote while helping each other speak out, make good choices and decisions in the group. We can do anything we set our minds to do.

Further information about SAM and COPS activities is available by calling 802 886 1833 or 888-545-9533
