Our Mission

It is the mission of Lincoln Street, Incorporated to support people with developmental disabilities by assisting them to identify their needs, desires and necessary supports to assure they reach their full potential while participating as contributing members of their communities.

Our History

Lincoln Street, Inc. was formed in 1980 by a group of parents of children with development disabilities in the Springfield area. There were no family supports in existence at that time, these parents were determined to develop a community based residential alternative to the state institution.

Lincoln Street, Inc. became one of the pioneers in providing individualized residential services and we have continued to diversify our services to meet the changing needs of families and individuals we serve. The combination of family warmth and agency support has proven very effective in enabling people to progress in every part of their lives.

We continue to provide developmental services according to current Best Practices Standards and our employment program has been defined by the State Quality Review Team as reaching “flagship status” in a few short years. Individuals are assisted to find jobs they value and are supported according to their needs.

For those individuals who are not ready for a work environment, we have the experience and support systems to help them develop job skills that could lead to employment or explore other interests and become active members of the community.

Lincoln Street has recently engaged in a collaborative relationship with other local agencies and VsArts of Vermont to sponsor classes in the arts. Check out What's happening at LSI to see what's coming up for activities.

Lincoln Street, Inc. is a Specialized Service Agency designated by Vermont’s Division of Developmental Services. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are closely connected to the population we serve through family relations or professional experience.
