The Self Advocate Groups

Lincoln Street, Inc. has long believed and acted upon the concepts of self determination and self advocacy and we continue to support the activities of two self advocacy groups.

“I like this group because we can talk to people.”

The Self Advocates Meeting (SAM) group has been meeting regularly in Springfield since September 1998, and the Connection of Peer Supports (COPS) has been meeting regularly in White River Junction since October of 1997. These groups are supported by Lincoln Street staff in an advisory capacity, and both groups are active members of Green Mountain Self Advocates (GMSA)

SAM and COPS organize several fundraising events each year to support peer-based activities such as dances, cruises and trips to the statehouse. They are politically active in the legislative process and exercise their voices as citizens in advocating for adequate funding and services that support their efforts to remain active members of the community.

“I love it, listening to reports and about Lincoln Street, Inc.”

“COPS is very informative.”
